Menstrual blood

1995
As I began menopause and grieved the end of my middle years, I collected menstrual blood and semen. I photographed these in an abstract way to express my complex emotions of sadness and loss.

These were my first digital prints, black and white Iris prints, that read more like graphite drawings than photographs. I didn’t feel the need to make the prints very large, smaller felt more private and emotionally appropriate. Sizes vary, but approximately 8” x 10” to 14 x 17”. New prints available as Archival Inkjet Prints.
